76. Cnidoscolus rupestris Fern.Casas, Fontqueria View in CoL 55: 351 (2006). Type:— BRAZIL. Bahia: Estrada Xique-Xique– Vacarias ca. 11ºS, 43ºW, 14 October 1990, A. Freire Fierro, J.M. Martins, R. Moraes, P.L. da Rocha, M. Rodrigues, G. Sugliano & J.P. Yvert 1951 (holotype SPF).
Distribution:— Brazil (regional endemic).
Notes:— Fernández Casas (2006e) suggested that Cnidoscolus rupestris may be a hybrid between Cnidoscolus obtusifolius [as C. pubescens ] and C. byssinus . It was distinguished from both species by having cylindrical glands along the leaf margin. It was further distinguished from Cnidoscolus byssinus by its 4-whorled androecium (vs. 6- whorled androecium). We believe that more study of the relationships among these three species would be beneficial.
