37. Cnidoscolus hasslerianus (Pax) Pax, Nat. Pflanzenfam. View in CoL ed. 2, 19c: 164 (1931).— Jatropha hassleriana Pax, Pflanzenr. IV. 147. I (Heft 42): 91 (1910).— Cnidoscolus hasslerianus (Pax) Pax ex Fern.Casas, Fontqueria View in CoL 55: 71 (2002), comb. superfl. (see under C. acrandrus for discussion). Type:— PARAGUAY. Central: In dumeto prope lacus Ypacarai, 1897, É. Hassler 3285 (lectotype G-00307046!, designated here; isolectotypes BM-000504580!, G-00307044!, K-000254146!, NY-00804036!, P-00545793!).
Distribution:— Paraguay (regional endemic).
Notes:— Pax based this species on four collections: Lorentz s.n., Hassler 7090, Hassler 573, and Hassler 3285. Hassler 7090 was initially a syntype of Jatropha vitifolia forma nana . Hassler 573 and Hassler 3285 were previously determined as Jatropha vitifolia var. vitifolia [as var. genuina ]. We choose Hassler 3285 as the lectotype at G because it is the most complete collection of the syntypes available. The Lorentz specimens was at B (Field Museum Berlin Negative #5389) but was destroyed in World War II.
