SCATOPSCIARA View in CoL View at ENA ( SCATOPSCIARA ) SUBCALAMOPHILA
MENZEL & MOHRIG, 1991
Synonym: subvivida Laurence, 1994 . Literature: Laurence (1994): 116 [as Scatopsciara subvivida ]; Menzel (1998): 22; Menzel & Mohrig (2000): 500.
Material examined: 60 males. Catfield, Norfolk , 1 male, 13.x.−13.xii.1988, Foster & Procter leg. [paratype of Scatopsciara subvivida ] ( PBLN). Hickling , Norfolk , 12 males, 8.viii.−22.viii.1988, Foster & Procter leg. ( PBLN) ; 1 male, x.1988, Laurence leg. [paratypes of Scatopsciara subvivida ] ( PBLN). Reedham , Norfolk , 1 male, 27.vi.−11.vii.1988; 18 males, 27.x.1988, all Foster & Procter leg. [paratypes of Scatopsciara subvivida ] ( PBLN). Stallode Wash , Suffolk , 16 males, 10.vi.−24.vi.1988; 3 males, 10.vi.− 26.vi.1988; 8 males, 24.vi.−8.vii.1988, all Foster & Procter leg. [holotype and paratypes of Scatopsciara subvivida ] ( DEI, PBLN) .
Ecological notes: found in carr woodland; fen; marshland; sedge beds. vi–viii, x–xii.
Taxonomic note: In Laurence’s collection there are 19 males that were labelled by the author as ‘ PARATYPE, Scatopsciara subvivida ’ with the dates 10.vi.−24.vi.1988 [2 males ( DEI); 14 males ( PBLN)] and 10.vi.−26.vi.1988 [1 male ( DEI); 2 males ( PBLN)]. In the original description, however, only 9 paratypes from Stallode Wash, Suffolk [ Laurence (1994): 117 [as ‘ 9 males, similar data’]] were recorded. It seems possible that there was a printing error and that it should have been 19, not 9! Therefore , the total type series for Scatopsciara subvivida stands as the holotype and 59 paratypes .
