Anaphothrips View in CoL genus-group in Japan
Kudo (1989) reported six members of this group from Japan, together with an identification key; Apterothrips secticornis and five grass-living species of Anaphothrips : asahi , badius , obscurus , ponokikirmui and sudanensis . Of these, two are endemic to Japan, A. asahi and ponokikirmui, but A. badius is a European species known from Hokkaido, and A. obscurus is widespread around the world in the temperate zone, and is one of the most abundant species from Hokkaido to Kyushu. Anaphothrips sudanensis is widely distributed in warmer areas of the world, and is common from Kyushu to Okinawa in southwestern Japan . Apterothrips secticornis is known from mountainous areas in Honshu, Aptinothrips rufus is widely distributed in the temperate to polar zones, and A. stylifer is abundant in the northern part of Japan and mountainous areas in Honshu. Chilothrips yamatensis is widespread in Honshu ( Kudo, 1978), breeding in Pinus flowers but with adults often collected from other plants. In Honshu, this species has an emergance period of about one month, April to May. A new species of Oxythrips is described below that has been recognized on Pinus flowers since Saikawa (1972). Paroxythrips includes two species; one from Podocarpus in Japan and the other from Agathis in Australia ( Masumoto & Okajima 2017). Paroxythrips podocarpi is widely distributed on young leaves of Podocarpus macrophyllus from the western part of Honshu to Okinawa, and larvae are collected together with larvae of Scirtothrips dorsalis . One new species of Rubiothrips is described below from Galium in the mountainous area of central Honshu ; this species was previously misidentified as Anaphothrips silvarum ( Tsutsumi 1995) .
