Type Locality: Brazil, Acre, Igarapé Porongaba, right bank Rio Juruá (72 o 47’W, 08 o 40’S) GoogleMaps .

Vernacular Names: Patton's Spiny-rat.

Distribution: SE Peru, W Amazonia in headwaters of Rio Juruá ( Brazil).

Discussion: Weksler et al. (2001) erroneously cited Patton (1987) as placing in guyannensis group. Molecular analysis suggests affinities with gardneri and kulinae ( Patton et al., 2000) . Karyotype has 2n=40 and FN=56.
