Neotoma (Neotoma) stephensi Goldman 1905 View in CoL
Neotoma (Neotoma) stephensi Goldman 1905 View in CoL , Proc. Biol. Soc. Wash., 18: 32.
Type Locality: USA, Arizona, Mohave Co., Hualapai Mtns, 6300 ft (1920 m).
Vernacular Names: Stephen's Woodrat.
Synonyms: Neotoma (Neotoma) relicta Goldman 1932 .
Distribution: Extreme SC Utah, N Arizona, and NW New Mexico, USA.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Subgenus Neotoma , lepida species group ( sensu Edwards and Bradley, 2002 b ). Morphological separation from N. lepida and geographic variation reviewed by Hoffmeister and de la Torre (1960). Sister taxon to N. mexicana sensu lato based on phallic morphology ( Hooper, 1960) and restriction-site analysis of mitochondrial DNA ( Planz et al., 1996), but associated with the lepida complex based on cytochrome b sequence data ( Edwards and Bradley, 2002 b).
