Type: — AZERBAIJAN. Nakhichevan: between Karabaglyr (Qarabağlar) and Aznabjurt (Çalxanqala), 07 June 1947, Grossheim, Iljinoskaja & Kirpicnikov s.n. (holotype LE!).
Description: —Perennial, with root thick. Stems numerous, erect, thin, glabrous at the base, the upper part glandular-pubescent, 30–80 cm high, the upper half-dichotomously branched. Lower leaves linear (8–32 × 1.0– 1.7 mm), acute, narrowed at the base and connate and fleshy; upper leaves linear (5–60 × 1.0–3.0 mm), acute. Inflorescence paniculatedichasial, more or less lax; bracts lanceolate, acuminate, ciliate, scarious (1–5 mm long); pedicels 1–1.5 cm long, glandular-pubescent at the base, the capillary. Calyx broadly campanulate (3 mm × 2.5 mm), lobed (lobes ovate, obtuse, ciliate). Petals rosy, oblong, emarginate or slightly notched, towards base narrowed, approximately twice as long as the calyx, about 1 mm wide; stamens shorter than petals; ovary obovoid, divergent styles, ovules 8. Capsule globular, 2.5–3.5 mm. Seeds brownish-black, reniform (1–1.2 × 1.2–1.4 mm) with obtuse tubercles.
Phenology: —Flowering and fruiting times in July.
Habitat and distribution: —On calcareous rubble slopes (about 1500 m a.s.l.) in Turkey (Doğubayazıt, Ağrı), Azerbaijan, Armenia and Iran ( Nejad Falatoury et al. 2016) ( Figure 5 View FIGURE 5 ).
Taxonomical notes: —The specimens examined displays inflorescence glandular and racemose. On the contrary Gypsophila patrinii has inflorescence glabrous and in corymbs.As a consequence Gypsophila transcaucasica is a new record to the Turkish flora. G. patrinii is to be excluded from Turkey.
