Verbascum maurum Maire & Murb., in Lunds Univ. Arsskrift, 2 n.f., 19(1): 35. 1923.

Type.

[ Morocco]. Region du Grand Atlas. Ourika: rocailles schisteuses le long du torrent, au-dessous de Tagentourt; 1400 m, 14 Juillet 1921, R. Maire, s.n. (Lectotype, designated here: MPU [MPU008183]!; isolectotype: MPU [MPU008015]!). [image of lectotype available at https://plants.jstor.org/stable/viewer/10.5555/al.ap.specimen.mpu008183] .

Notes.

Murbeck (1933), in his monograph of Verbascum L., indicated that original material of Verbascum maurum was kept at Maire’s herbarium at Herb. MPU. We have only found two sheets of this taxon in Herb. MPU (MPU008015, MPU008183). Both have a handwritten label by Maire bearing the information about the gathering, collector, date, and locality that match the protologue. The specimen MPU008183 is designated here as the lectotype, because it shows more of the diagnostic features described in the protologue.
