Notes
Species complex. At least four morphologically similar species exist ( Meißner and Blank 2009). All forms currently known have been formally described as different species in recent years. Specimens from the Turkish Aegean were studied by Meißner and Blank (2009) and found to belong to Spiophanes bombyx , thus it can be assumed that at least some of the Greek material belongs to Spiophanes bombyx sensu stricto. Type locality: Mediterranean (Gulf of Naples).
No known copyright restrictions apply. See Agosti, D., Egloff, W., 2009. Taxonomic information exchange and copyright: the Plazi approach. BMC Research Notes 2009, 2:53 for further explanation.
