Trilacuna hamata View in CoL sp. nov.
( Figs 1–3 View FIGURE 1 View FIGURE 2 View FIGURE 3 , 4A–D View FIGURE 4. A – D )
Type material. 1 male holotype ( IZCAS Ar 19419), Tam Dao National Park, Vinh Phuc, Vietnam, pitfall traps, in natural forest, Pham Dinh-Sac, 1–30. XI. 2007; 1 female paratype ( IZCAS Ar 19420), same data as holotype.
Etymology. The specific name is Latin, meaning “hook-shaped” and refers to the shape of the strongly curved outgrowth of the male embolus ( Figs 2 View FIGURE 2 A–H); adjective.
Diagnosis. The new species is similar to T. loebli Grismado & Piacentini , but can be distinguished from it by the smooth sternum ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 D), the fold on the anterior margin of the postepigastric scutum in females ( Figs 4A, C View FIGURE 4. A – D ) and the nearly rectangular, sponge-like sclerite (rss) in the female genitalia ( Figs 4B, D View FIGURE 4. A – D ).
Description. Male. Completely chitinized. Body yellow-brown, chelicerae and sternum lighter, legs yellow. Habitus as in Figs 1 View FIGURE 1 A, B. Body length 1.72; carapace 0.81 length, 0.65 width; abdomen 0.85 length, 0.53 width. Carapace broadly oval, slightly elevated, dorsal surface smooth, with three rows of short hairs between eyes and posterior border of dorsal elevation of carapace; sides granulated; lateral margin rebordered, with a row of short, finely hairs and small blunt denticles. Eyes six, well developed, arranged in a compact group, about subequal, roundish ( Figs 1 View FIGURE 1 C, D); posterior row recurved from above, straight from front ( Figs 1 View FIGURE 1 C, F). Clypeus sinuous in frontal view, anterior lateral eyes separated from edge of carapace by about 1.5 times their diameter, with needlelike setae. Mouthparts: Chelicerae straight, proximal region with one hair with elevated hair base; labium rectangular, not fused to sternum, anterior margin deeply incised (ldi) ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 I); endites slender, distally only slightly branched (sdb) ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 I). Sternum surface smooth with small pits on radial furrows between coxae, anterior margin with transverse groove; setae sparse, light, needle-like, evenly scattered ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 E). Abdomen: Ovoid, dorsal scutum not fused to epigastric scutum, postepigastric and epigastric scutum fused, apodemes absent, posterior spiracles not connected by groove ( Figs 1 View FIGURE 1 G, H), booklung covers (boc) large, ovoid, surface smooth. Leg spines: metatarsi I, II with 4 pairs of ventral spines each, tarsi I, II with 2 pairs of ventral spines each; legs III and IV without spines.
Male genitalia: Epigastric region ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 G) with sperm pore small, oval, rebordered, situated between anterior and posterior spiracles. Palp ( Figs 2 View FIGURE 2 A–H): pale-orange. Femur slightly enlarged ( Figs 2 View FIGURE 2 A, B), attached to patella basally. Cymbium not fused with bulb, with scattered setae. Bulb pear shaped, about twice as long as cymbium, stout, tapering apically. Embolus system ( Figs 2 View FIGURE 2 C–H) complicated, with two slightly sclerotized, strongly curved outgrowth (sso), retrolateral-dorsally bordered by numerous hairs (rdh); with a filiform, long and mesially curved projection (ffp), framed by some dorsal hairs (dh) and a narrow branch (nb); base of the embolus system with a long, membranous lobe (mlo).
Female: As in male except as noted. Slightly larger than male. Body length 1.85; carapace 0.83 length, 0.65 width; abdomen 0.99 length, 0.61 width. Postepigastric scutum long, semicircular, not fused to epigastric scutum. Posterior spiracles connected by groove; with two strongly sclerotized, recurved arches (sar) anterior to the posterior spiracles ( Figs 4A, C View FIGURE 4. A – D ).
Female genitalia: Ventral view ( Figs 4A, C View FIGURE 4. A – D ): Posterior margin of epigastric scutum with two dark brown knobs (dkn); anterior margin of postepigastric scutum with a fold (fo); surface without external features except for a rugose surface around the epigastric furrow. Dorsal view ( Figs 4B, D View FIGURE 4. A – D ): with a nearly rectangular, sponge-like sclerite (rss), covered by a narrow, stick-like sclerite (sls), extending anteriorly, with very short apodemes (apo).
