Distribution in Africa: — Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Lesotho. Also distributed worldwide.

Note: —The type has for a long time been regarded as lost ( Roux 2009). We could retrieve authentic herbarium specimens of cultivated plants that are mentioned in the protologue. As Meyer (1962: 456) lists as collecting dates 22–24 July, we had the choice between four collections from which we selected the above cited specimen No. 82 as lectotype.

The species has already been recorded on the Ugandan side of Muhabura in Mgahinga NP (December 1957, Allen 3733, K, not seen) ( Beentje 2008: 32).
