Holotype: — SOUTH AFRICA. Westkap: “Cap b. spei“ (Cape of Good Hope ), s.d., s.coll. ( LINN1250.17 [digital image!]).

Southern Province: Préfecture de Gikongoro (= Nyamagabe), Commune Kivu, Savane de Rubyiro , 16 August 1999, C.E.N.Ewango & Ngayabahiga 2190 ( BR0000009450172 ) .

First recorded for Rwanda: — Brause & Hieronymus (1910: 15).

Habitat: —On rocks in lava ravine and on lava rock walls, elev. 2500–2700 m.

Distribution in Rwanda:—Northern Province: Volcano NP, foot of Bisoke, Gahinga.

General distribution: —Africa: Cameroon to Sudan, Ethiopia, southwards to S Africa, Madagascar. Also in the USA, Mexico to Colombia, Venezuela, southwards to S-Chile, Azores, Madeira, Canary Islands.
