First recorded for Rwanda: — Pichi Sermolli (1985: 133) as Asplenium erectum var. usambarense (Hieron. in Brause & Hieronymus 1910: 14) Schelpe (1967: 207).

Habitat: —Terrestrial in montane forest, rarely epiphytic, elev. 1800–2650 m.

Distribution in Rwanda:—Northern Province: Volcano NP, Western Province: Gishwati-Mukura NP, Nyungwe NP. Southern Province: Nyungwe NP.

General distribution: —Africa: Nigeria to Ethiopia, southwards to Rep. South Africa, Madagascar.Also in India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia.
