Australanthus australis flindersi Mathews

Australanthus australis flindersi Mathews, 1923: 40 (Flinders Island, Bass Straits).

SYNTYPE: AMNH 573003, adult female, collected on Flinders Island, Furneaux Group, Bass Strait, Australia, on 24 November 1912, by Capt. S.A. White (no. 1123). From the Mathews Collection (no. 15810) via the Rothschild Collection. COMMENTS: Mathews (1923: 40) did not designate a type, saying only that the type locality was Flinders Island. However, this is the only Mathews specimen of this taxon from Flinders Island that came to AMNH with the Rothschild Collection, and it is perhaps the holotype. It seems impossible to know now whether Mathews had other specimens in hand when he described this taxon.
