Gesneria humilis Linnaeus , Species Plantarum 2: 612. 1753.
"Habitat in America australi." RCN: 4423.
Neotype (Skog in Smithsonian Contr. Bot. 29: 95. 1976): [icon] " Gesnera " in Plumier, Nov. Pl. Amer.: 27, t. 9. 1703.
Generitype of Gesneria Linnaeus (vide Fritsch in Engler & Prantl, Nat. Pflanzenfam. 4(36): 183. 1895).
Current name: Gesneria humilis L. ( Gesneriaceae ).
Note: Plumier’s plate t. 9 is illustrative for the genus in which he included three species. One of these has a spotted, fimbriate corolla (which t. 9 does not depict) but it is not possible to say which of the two remaining species it applies to. Although it is therefore not original material for this name, in the absence of any other original material, Skog’s type choice is accepted as a neotypification.
