Type species: Austrobela rufa . OD, herein.
Etymology: The name is composed of auster, south, referring to its occurrence in the Southern Hemisphere, and the Greek βέλος, arrow, from the genus name Bela
Leach, 1847, indicating similarity to Gymnobela . The gender is feminine.
Diagnosis
Shell ( Fig. 3F) fusiform. Protoconch ( Fig. 5E) multispiral, orange. Teleoconch whorls clearly shouldered, with subcylindrical lower portion. Scultpure of axial riblets below subsutural ramp; spiral sculpture of fine, sometimes flattened cords or shallow grooves; misrosculpture of growth lines. Aperture elongate, large, about half of shell length. Siphonal canal long, straight; columella straight. Sinus wide, L-shaped. Cephalic tentacles muscular, subcylindrical; eyes large. Rhynchodeal introvert thinwalled, densely folded. Venom apparatus extremely large, occupying majority of rhynchocoel. Radula ( Fig. 6D) of hypodermic teeth with two large, sharp distal barbs; lower portion of shaft somewhat inflated; base broad; ligament thick.
