(1909); Boeckella brasiliensis Poppe and Mrázek 1895 not Lubbock ( sensu Scott, 1914 );

Pseudoboeckella entzi (Daday) in Bayly (1992);? Pseudoboeckella klutei Brehm, 1926 in

Bayly (1992); Pseudoboeckella Entzi Dod. (sic Brehm, 1954); Pseudoboeckella silvestrii

Daday (sic Goodmann, 1969; Heywood, 1970, 1972, 1977a); Pseudoboeckella sp.

(Heywood, 1977); not Diaptomus brasiliensis Lubbock, 1855 in Bayly (1992); not Boeckella brasiliensis (Lubbock) 5 Boeckella setosa Daday ( sensu Daday de Dées, 1902 in part).

Descriptions: Daday de Dées (1901, 1902); Ekman (1905); Sars (1909); Bayly (1992a, 1992b). Listed in: Ekman (1905); Marsh (1924); Pesta (1928); § Harding (1941); Ringulet (1955); Smith and Sayers (1971); Heywood (1977, 1984); Dartnall (1980); Dartnall and Heywood (1980); Paggi (1987, 1996); † Hessen et al. (1989); § Bayly and Burton (1993); Vechov (1993); Hansson et al. (1996); Downie et al. (2000).

Recorded from: freshwater and Antarctic epishelf meromictic lake (Enderby Sector).

Locations: (Enderby Sector *?‡), Palmer Land, Graham Land, S. Shetland Is., S. Orkney Is., South Georgia, Falkland Is., [S. America].

Notes. § Erroneous identi cation of B. silvestrii by Harding (1941) is now attributed to B. poppei . See next species entry. † B. poppei is reported on South Georgia to occur as two morphs: small in ponds and large, less vulnerable to predation by Parabroteas sarsii (Centropagidae) , in lakes ( sensu Hessen et al., 1989 ). The ‘morphs’ are most probably two distinct species, P. poppei and P. michaelseni which co-occur on South Georgia. ‡ The Enderby Sector record (Beaver Lake, Amery Oasis) is ‘anomalous’. The location of this solitary Continental Antarctic record is ice-covered and far removed from the Maritime Antarctic. Its sheer isolation from the Maritime Antarctic records suggests three possible options: (1) introduction via an avian, e.g. Pagodroma nivea (Forster, 1777) , or other natural vector; (2) confusion with B. brevicaudata , though this is unlikely given Bayly and Burton’s taxonomic expertise; (3) a recent ‘alien’ import from the Maritime or sub-Antarctic though the possible mechanism is unknown.
