Type Locality: Australia, New South Wales, banks of Murray River, south of the junction with Murrumbridge River.

Vernacular Names: Pig-footed Bandicoot.

Synonyms: Chaeropus castanotis Gray 1842 ; Chaeropus occidentalis Gould 1845 .

Distribution: Australia: SW New South Wales, Victoria, S Northern Territory, N South Australia, Western Australia.

Conservation: CITES – Appendix I [Possibly Extinct]; U.S. ESA – Endangered; IUCN – Extinct.

Discussion: Probably extinct, last taken in 1907; see Ride (1970:200).
