Diagnosis. This species can be distinguished from the other species of Brounea by the following combination of characters: male eye larger and prominent, as long as temple ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 c); female eye smaller, one-half length of temple; antennomeres 4–5 longer than wide, 6–7 subquadrate, 8–10 weakly transverse; median lobe longer than parameres, bullet shaped ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 c).

Description. Length 1.7–1.9 mm. Body brown, elytra, legs, antennae and maxillary palpi paler ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 c). Head. Head round, widest across eyes ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 c). Ventral surface of head of both sexes unmodified ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 n); lacking swollen ventral surface or dense gular setae. Antennomeres 1–2 elongate, 3 subquadrate, 4–5 longer than wide, 6– 7 subquadrate, 8–10 weakly transverse. Frontal sulcus shallow, reaching to mid-point of eye from apex of rostrum ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 c). Anterior and posterior frontal fovea small and round. Male eye large and prominent, as long as temple. Female eye smaller, one-half length of temple. Thorax. Prosternum as long as wide, widest at midpoint. Elytra rectangular ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 c). Hind wings of both sexes well-developed. Meso- and metaventrites together trapezoidal in ventral view, longer than wide. Abdomen. Abdominal tergite IV with pair of transverse patches of microtrichia reaching middle. Aedeagus. Median lobe longer than parameres, bullet shaped ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 c). Phallobase symmetrical and rounded ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 c). Parameres symmetrical with setae at tip, weakly emarginate inside of one-third length ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 c).

Distribution. Auckland (AK), Bay of Plenty (BP), Coromandel (CL), Northland (ND), Taupo (TO), Wairarapa (WA) ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 : black squares).

Habitat. Most specimens of this species were collected using window, flight intercept, malaise, and yellow pan traps, or by sifting leaf and log litter in kauri, broadleaf, hardwood, and podocarp forests.

Etymology. This species is named for Kee-Jeong Ahn lab alumnus, Korean aleocharine specialist, and an enthusiastic supporter of this study, Dr. Yoon-Ho Kim.
