Remarks. Originally described by Doria (1888), Thominot (1899) described Salea rosaceum as a new species based on specimen MNHN-RA-0.6806 acquired from Deyrolle and believed to come from Singapore. Boulenger (1890b) recognised Thominot’s specimen as D. boulengeri , with the location as Singapore. Later, Smith (1930) recognised Thominot’s specimen as unknown because Thominot’s description did not match Salea , and because he was unable to personally examine the specimen as it was missing. However, Harvey et al. (2017) reexamined the specimen and identified it as P. tympanistriga , and determined the locality to be Java based on the specimen being shipped with specimens from two other species labelled with Java as the locality. Harvey et al. (2017) considered the possibility of the specimen being a rare endemic to Singapore, but expressed skepticism. Given their justification for the specimen arising out of Java, and that Pseudocalotes is a genus that largely occurs above 1,000 m in elevation ( Grismer 2012), we also reject the possibility of P. tympanistriga being a rare Singapore endemic (see also Lim et al. 2019).
