Chinese Mud Snake
Singapore records.
Hypsirhina chinensis —Steindachner, 1867: 68.
Remarks. Along with M. bennettii, Steindachner (1867) mentioned that a specimen of M. chinensis was collected in Singapore during the Austrian Novara circumnavigational expedition between 1857 and 1859. Steindachner (1867) noted that the specimen was gifted by the author, but we are unsure who he is referring to. As M. chinensis has a similar distribution to M. bennettii , ranging from southeastern China, Hong Kong, Taiwan to northern Vietnam (Wallach et al. 2014), the specimen locality is incorrect. We found no other publication that references this record.
