Type data: Friese (1901) proposed this variety of C. xanthocnemis based on a single female collected in Coroico, western Bolivia. The holotype is housed at HNHM and bears the following data label: [light green label] 32. [handwritten]\ Bolivia Coroico [printed]\ C. xanthocnemis Perty ♀ [handwritten] det. Friese 1898 [printed]\ [light blue label] HOLOTYPE Centris xanthocnemis ardesiaca Friese, 1901 F. Vivallo lab. 2017 ( HNHM).

Type locality: Bolivia: La Paz department: Coroico .

Comment: The holotype of Centris xanthocnemis ardesiaca is a female of C. xanthocnemis with blackish pubescence on the mesosoma. This feature is very variable in both sexes, a fact related with the numerous junior synonymies of this species (see Moure et al., 2007).
