Type data: This species was described based on a single male specimen collected in north-central Colombia. The holotype is housed at ZMB and it has the following data labels: Muzo [handwritten]\ Centris insignis v. scutellaris det. Type locality: Colombia: Boyacá department: Muzo .

Comment: This species shares the same patterns of coloration of the integument and pubescence with C. erythrosara Moure & Seabra, 1950 , a member of C. (Ptilotopus).
