Type data: This variety was described based on a single male collected in Chiriquí, Panama. The holotype is a metander and it has the following data label: [light green label] 39. [handwritten]\ Amer. centr. Chiriqui [printed]\ C. flavifrons v. rufescens n. var. ♂ [handwritten] det. Friese 1898 [printed]\ HOLOTYPE Centris flavifrons var. rufescens Friese, 1899 F. Vivallo lab, 2017 ( HNHM).

Type locality: Panama: Chiriquí province .

Comment: This species was previously synonymized with C. flavifrons by Snelling (1984). However, it was considered valid by Moure et al. (2007). The study of the primary types of both species allows confirming they are conspecific.
