Centris sericea Friese, 1899 View in CoL

Centris sericea Friese, 1899: 41 View in CoL .

Type data: This species was described based on a single female specimen collected by the German merchant and botanist Carl August Ehrenberg (1801‒1849). Carl dedicated himself to commerce and travelled through Saint Thomas (1827‒1828), Haiti (1828‒1831) and Mexico (1831‒1840). From all those places he sent to the ZMB rich zoological and botanical collections ( Papavero & Ibáñez-Bernal 2001), including the specimen studied by Friese to describe this species. The holotype is currently housed at ZMB and it has the following data label: [green label] Mexico. Ehrbrg [handwritten]\ Centris sericea n. sp. ♀ [handwritten] det. Friese 1898 [printed] 11658 [printed] ( ZMB) .

Type locality: Mexico .

Comments: The type locality cannot be further narrowed down than to Mexico. This species was correctly interpreted by Snelling (1984) .
