Type data: This species was described based on a single female from Minas Gerais state, southeastern Brazil. Friese (1899) did not indicate where the holotype was housed and Moure et al. (2007) were unable to locate it, but it is in fact in the AMNH. The specimen is in good condition and has the following data label: [green label with black rim] Minas Geraës Brasil 1897 ex coll. Fruhstorfer [printed]\ Centris rufipes Fr. ♀ [handwritten] 1910 Friese det. [printed]\ Am. Mus. Nat. Hist. Dept. Invert. Zool. No. [printed] 26502 [handwritten]\ [white label] Moure - 1957 This specimen is the TYPE [handwritten]\ AMNH _IZC 00324047 QR code [printed] ( AMNH).
Type locality: Brazil: Minas Gerais state (“Minas Geraës”) .
Comment: This is a relatively rare species only known from females. The opposite sex must correspond to the species described as C. femoralis .
