Centris muralis var. melanopus Friese, 1908: 58 View in CoL . Junior synonym of C. muralis Burmeister, 1876 View in CoL ( Moure et al. 2007).

Type data: This variety of Centris muralis was proposed from male and female specimens collected by the Danish hymenopterist Anders Christian Jensen-Haarup (1863–1934) in Mendoza, northwest Argentina. During 1904, Jensen-Haarup made a collecting trip to Mendoza, returning to Denmark the next year. In 1906, he returned to Mendoza, this time accompanied by the Danish entomologist Peter Jörgensen (1870–1937). According to the information of the label of the syntype male found at ZMB, that specimen ‒here designated the lectotype‒ was collected during his second trip. Type locality: Argentina: Mendoza province .

Comment: Centris muralis is the largest species of the subgenus C. (Wagenknechtia). Photographs of both sexes can be found in Vivallo (2013).
