Type data: To describe this species Friese (1899) used two males and a single female collected in Ecuador. This latter specimen was selected by Zanella (2002) as the lectotype. The exemplar is currently housed at ZSM and it has the following data label: [green label] America merid. [handwritten]\ Centris caelebs n. sp. ♀ [handwritten] det. Friese 1898 [printed]\ [pink label] typus [printed]\ [green label] 44. [handwritten]\ [red label with black rim] Cotype [printed]\ Zoologische Staatssammlung München [printed]\ [red label] LECTOTYPE Centris caelebs Friese F. Zanella, 1998 [printed] ( ZSM). The current condition and depository of the paralectotypes male are unknown.
Type locality: Ecuador (“America merid.”) .
Comments: The type locality cannot be further narrowed down than to Ecuador. This species was correctly interpreted by Moure et al. (2007) .
