Genus Gyabus nom. nov.
Pachymastax Bei-Bienko, 1949 View in CoL . C. R. Acad. Sci. U.S. S.R. 64 (5): 733. (Insecta: Othoptera: Caelifera: Eumastacoidea:
Eumastacidae View in CoL : Gomphomastacinae View in CoL : Gomphomastacini View in CoL ). Preoccupied by Pachymastax Wollaston, 1877 View in CoL . Coleopt.
Sanctae-Helenae, 91. (Insecta: Coleoptera View in CoL : Curculionoidea: Curculionidae View in CoL ).
Remarks on nomenclatural change: Firstly, Wollaston (1877) described a weevil genus Pachymastax with the type species Pachymastax crassa Wollaston, 1877 in Coleoptera . It is still used as a valid generic name. Later, the genus Pachymastax was erected by Bei-Bienko (1949) with the type species Pachymastax fusiformis Bei-Bienko, 1949 in Orthoptera . Also it is still used as a valid genus name in the family Eumastacidae . Thus, the genus group name Pachymastax Bei-Bienko, 1949 (Orthoptera) is invalid under the rule of homonymy, being a junior homonym of Pachymastax Wollaston, 1877 (Coleoptera) . Under the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN 1999) it must be rejected and replaced. The genus Pachymastax Bei-Bienko, 1949 has no synonym. So I proposed here a replacement name Gyabus nom. nov. for the junior homonym name Pachymastax Bei-Bienko, 1949 .
Etymology: The genus is named after the current author of Pachymastax, G. Ya. Bei-Bienko (using the first letter of his names).
Summary of nomenclatural changes: Gyabus nom. nov. pro Pachymastax Bei-Bienko, 1949 (non Wollaston, 1877); Gyabus fusiformis ( Bei-Bienko, 1949) comb. nov. from Pachymastax fusiformis Bei-Bienko, 1949 (distribution: Asia-Tropical, Indian Subcontinent, Jammu-Kashmir, Kashmir, West Ladak, Ind River).
