Lysilinga parkeri Webb View in CoL spec. nov.

( Figs. 368, 378, 388, 398, 408, 418, 428, 438, 446, 449)

Etymology

This species is a patronym named for Dr. F. D. Parker, who has collected many therevids in Mesoamerica.

Diagnosis Lysilinga parkeri is taxonomically associated with L. recta in possessing setae on the katepisternum and in lacking dorsocentral macrosetae. Lysilinga parkeri differs from L. recta in having the male ommatidia homogeneous in size; the surface of the male frons not distinctly raised; the wing membrane pale smoky brown, darker apically; anteroventral macrosetae present on the foreleg; posteroventral macrosetae present on the hindleg; and the apex of the distiphallus broadly curved ventrally (Fig. 438).

Description of holotype male (MEI 101131).

Body length 7.0 mm.

Head. Length 0.90 mm. Ommatidia of homogeneous size. Frons gray; setae black. Antenna/head length 0.80; scape and pedicel black, pruinescence gray, flagellum dark brown; scape length 0.30 mm, width 0.14 mm, length/width 2.1, scape/pedicel length 3.8, scape/flagellum width 0.88, setae black; pedicel length 0.08 mm, length/width 0.6; first flagellomere oval, attenuate apically, flagellum length 0.34 mm, 0.16 mm wide, length/ width 2.1, flagellum/scape length 1.1. Parafacial pruinescence gray. Maxillary palpus dark yellowish brown; length 0.28 mm, length/width 4.7; setae pale yellow. Genal setae white. Occipital setae white becoming pale gold, lanceolate, appressed dorsally. Postocular macrosetae dark reddish brown.

Thorax. Macrosetae dark reddish brown, 3 np, 2 sa, 1 pa, 0 dc, 2 sc. Mesonotum black; setae black intermixed with white, lanceolate, appressed setae. Pleuron black, pruinescence gray; setae white on propleuron (pale dirty yellow dorsally), anepisternum, katepisternum, laterotergite, metanepisternum, and scutellum. Wing. Membrane pale smoky brown, darker apically; veins brown; length 4.8 mm, length/width 3.2; pterostigma brown; cell m 3 closed, petiolate. Halter dark brown. Legs. Coxal macrosetae dark reddish brown. Forefemur dark reddish brown, dark yellow apically, middle femur dark yellowish brown, glossy, hind femur dark yellowish brown, basal and apical fourth dark yellowish brown; ventral setae white; av 1:0:6, pv 0:0:3. Tibiae dark yellowish brown. Tarsomeres 1–2 dark yellowish brown; 3–5 brown.

Abdomen. Black, pruinescence white, dense; dorsal setae white elongate, appressed; lateral setae white, erect. Terminalia . Tergite 8 and epandrium ( Fig. 368), setae dark reddish brown. Hypoproct ( Fig. 368) quadrate, posterior margin emarginate, ending distal to apex of cercus; setae dark reddish brown. Gonocoxite ventral view (Fig. 378), basal half quadrate, posteromedial lobe rounded, then emarginate before tapering apically to narrow, sinuate projection; setae dark reddish brown with patch of short setae posteromedially; dorsal view ( Fig. 388) gonocoxal bridge moderately large; lateral view (Fig. 398) broad, oval, tapering apically to broad point; ventral lobe (Fig. 378) with ventral spines. Gonostylus ( Fig. 408), basodorsal lobe large, broadly pointed; ventral margin angulate, setae dark yellow; fine, short spines apicoventrally. Aedeagus with dorsal apodeme (Fig. 418) oval, sides rounded; ventral apodeme ( Fig. 428) tapered anteriorly with ventral carina, not extending to anterior margin of dorsal apodeme; distiphallus dorsal view (Fig. 418) short, broad basally, tapered apically, lateral view (Fig. 438) broadly curved ventrally, subapical hood short, pointed; ejaculatory apodeme dark yellow (Fig. 418), anterior half expanded laterally, not extending beyond anterior margin of dorsal apodeme, anterior margin emarginate, in crosssection flattened dorsoventrally with dorsal carinas.

Variation (n=7). Body length 5.5–6.2, 5.9 mm.

Thorax. Macrosetae 3 np, 2 sa, 1 pa, 0 dc, 2 sc. Legs. Anteroventral macrosetae 1–2:0:8–12, pv 0:0:4–9.

Head. Frons brownish gray, whitish silver dorsolateral to antennal base; setae dark brown over entire frons.

Thorax. Macrosetae 3 np, 2 sa, 1 pa, 0 dc, 2 sc. Legs. Anteroventral macrosetae 1–2:0:6–10, pv 0:0:5–7.

Abdomen. Dark reddish brown, glossy, pruinescence gray posterolaterally on tergites 2–6, tergites 4–6 with posterolateral yellowish orange area; dorsal setae dark reddish brown, appressed with white, elongate, appressed setae across posterior margin of tergites 2–4; lateral setae dark reddish brown. Terminalia (MEI 101135). Furca ( Fig. 446) quadrate; length 0.34 mm, width 0.20 mm; posteromedial lobe short, coneshaped, anterolateral and anteromedial projection short. Common duct ( Fig. 446) longer than furca. Spermathecal ducts ( Fig. 446) directed anteriorly, saclike posteriorly then becoming threadlike anteriorly.

Distribution Lysilinga parkeri is known from Mexico ( Fig. 449).
