( Fig. 11 View FIGURE 11 A–B)
Athalia fumosa Gribodo, 1879: 347 . Locus typicus: Ethiopia, Scioa, Mahal-Uonz. Holotype: ♀. Scioa, Mahal-Uonz [=Mahal Wenz, ca 09°34'N 039°54'E], VI.1877, leg. Antinori, teste: F. Koch (MCSN).
Ethiopian material. Addis Ababa [09°00'N 038°45'E], 7500 ft., 13.X.1945 (2 ♂, 2 ♀), leg. K. M. Guichard (MFN); Dodola, 06°59'N 039°11'E, 25.X.2010, P3453 (1 ♀), leg. B. Wondwosen & J.-L. Boevé ( RBINS); Holeta, 09°04'N 038°30'E, 2450 m, 12.X.2012, with yellow pan traps, in Guizotia abyssinica field, P3655_4 (1 ♀), leg. Z. A. Hora, A. Pauly & J.-L. Boevé ( RBINS).
Distribution. Eritrea, Ethiopia, Yemen.
Host plant. Unknown.
Remarks. Athalia fumosa was synonymized with A. scioensis Gribodo by Benson (1962). The holotypes of both species have been examined, and A. fumosa is recognized as a valid species, therefore being re-established. Athalia fumosa differs from A. scioensis in the entirely black thorax and the black tergum 1. In A. scioensis the thorax is predominantly yellow, only the pronotum and the mesonotum are black. Further morphological differences are discussed in the revision of this species group (Koch in prep.).
