Cliona celata Grant, 1826 ( Figure 2 View FIGURE 2 )
Material examined. MMF 35063 / Location: Baixa do Carneiro , Lido (BC), Madeira island / 3.5 m and 4.5 m depth / Date : 3 and 4 apr 2001 / Collector: Rosa Pestana.
Remarks. The specimens collected were in gamma stage, the biggest with 85.76 cm 2. One specimen was degraded. The spicules had some distinct aspects when compared to descriptions in the literature: tylostyles’ heads were slightly larger than the usual; few tylostyles with heads slightly trilobed, with a small swelling; some tylostyles have an incipient second tyle below the head, resembling polytylotes; and in all spicules, an axial canal is visible.
