Type species. Buccinum strigilatum Linnaeus, 1758 ; subsequent designation by Cossmann (1896: 53). Present-day, Indo-West Pacific.
Original diagnosis. “ Whorls smooth; columella simple, straight, produced anteriorly; outer lip simple, not sinuated at the for part.” (H. Adams & A. Adams 1853: 225)
Revised diagnosis. “ Small to medium-sized, shiny, 12–90 mm. Protoconch paucispiral or multispiral, [...]. Axial sculpture of crenulations on subsutural portion of whorl, or fine ribs on part or throughout whorl height; spiral sculpture of single subsutural groove, occasionally with additional row of punctations. Siphonal canal stout, very short, with well-developed fasciole. Aperture elongate to rounded.” ( Fedosov et al. 2020: 370).
