Revised description. Medium sized, very slender conical shell of up to 16 teleoconch whorls; apical angle ~21– 25°, later decreasing to ~8–10°. Protoconch unknown. Early teleoconch whorls with prominent orthocline axial ribs separated by narrower interspaces. Subsutural band indistinct, vaguely delimited by shallow groove. Interspaces between axial ribs widening slightly on later whorls, filled with delicate, dense spiral threads. Subsutural band not swollen, weakly delimited by shallow groove of variable width. Whorl profile subcylindrical to weakly convex. Suture distinctly incised. Spire profile weakly gradate. Last whorl moderately high, ~26–30% of total height, subcylindrical to weakly convex. Base convex, moderately constricted. Fasciole moderately prominent, broad, with few growth increments, not sharply delimited. Aperture narrow. Columella slightly twisted, moderately excavated in adapical half. Columellar callus forming broad, thin rim, sharply delimited from base. No columellar fold. Anal canal indistinct, narrowly incised. Outer lip thin. Siphonal canal moderately long, twisted, narrow, slightly deflected to the left, moderately deeply notched at tip.
Discussion. Already Sacco (1891a: 37) and Peyrot (1931: 117) pointed out that the Paratethyan specimen described by Hörnes (1852) was different from the Early Miocene Strioterebrum bistriatum (Grateloup, 1934) from France. They differ in the more convex whorls of S. exbistriatum , its deeper suture, more sigmoidal axial ribs and distinct and dense spiral sculpture (see Strioterebrum bistriatum from the Late Burdigalian of St-Jean-de-Marsacq ( France) in Peyrot 1931: pl. 10, figs 13–15). The weaker poorly delimited subsutural band, and the denser, finer spiral sculpture in the axial interspaces, allow a separation from Strioterebrum volhynianum (d’Orbigny, 1852) .
Paleoenvironment. Most of the specimens derive from localities suggesting middle to outer neritic depositional environments (e.g., Baden Formation; Kranner et al. 2021).
Distribution in Central Paratethys. Badenian (Middle Miocene): North Alpine-Carpathian Foreland Basin: Hrušovany nad Jevišovkou, Jaroměřice ( Czech Republic) ( Hoernes & Auinger 1880); Korytnica Basin: Korytnica ( Poland) ( Bałuk 1997); Vienna Basin: Baden, Baden-Sooss, Bad-Vöslau, Möllersdorf, Niederleis, Traiskirchen ( Austria) ( Hoernes & Auinger 1880; hoc opus); Pannonian Basin: Letkés, Szob, Szokolya ( Hungary) ( Báldi 1960); southern Pannonian Basin: Hrvaćani ( Bosnia and Herzegovina) ( Atanacković 1985); Eisenstadt-Sopron Basin: Forchtenau ( Austria) ( Hoernes & Auinger 1880); Făget Basin: CoŞteiu de Sus, Lăpugiu de Sus, NemeŞeŞti ( Romania) ( Hoernes & Auinger 1880; Boettger 1902; hoc opus); Şimleu Basin: Tusa ( Romania) ( Nicorici 1972); Dacian Basin: Urobene, Opanec, Staropatica ( Bulgaria) (Kojumdgieva in Kojumdgieva & Strachimirov 1960).
