Hydroides (Eucarphus) sanctae-crucis Krøyer [in] Mörch, 1863: 378–379, pl. 11, fig. 12. Type locality: Saint Croix, Lesser Antilles .

Material examined. Two specimens: Oaxaca ( Mexico), UMAR-Poly 70, 2 spec. (15º45’12”N, 96º07’46”W, Santa Cruz bay, Huatulco, on pier pilots, 0–1 m, Nov. 12, 2003, coll. PZ) .

Diagnosis. For a revised description see Bastida-Zavala and ten Hove (2003b).

Habitat. Depth: 0–1 m. Rocks. Salinity 19–37‰. Fouling species.

Distribution. Amphi-American. Gulf of Mexico, Eastern U.S.A. and Caribbean Sea; Hawaii, Oaxaca ( Mexico) and Panama (Bastida-Zavala & ten Hove 2003a-b). Hydroides sanctaecrucis is an invasive species in Northern Australia and Singapore ( Lewis et al. 2006).

Remarks. Hydroides sanctaecrucis is a ship-transported serpulid that presumably colonized the Pacific of Panama and Oaxaca relatively recent, after the building the tourist complex of Huatulco, Oaxaca, Mexico, 20 years ago. Thirty years ago Long (1974) recorded the species from Hawaii. Recently it was recorded as an invasive species in Northern Australia and Singapore, on fouled hulls of ships, apparently restricted to marinas and harbours ( Lewis et al. 2006). The Pacific localities recorded here support Long’s (1974) record of this taxon from Hawaii.
