Genus Austropeirates gen. nov.
Type species: Austropeirates maculipes sp. nov.
Diagnosis. This genus can be recognised among Peiratinae by the following combination of characters. Body small (about 10 mm long) and slender; macropterous male and micropterous female known. Antennal scape and pedicel subequal in width; labium with third visible segment distinctly longer than first segment. Metapleural sulcus indistinctly bicarinate and curved; fore and mid tibiae armed below with rows of small teeth, with a long bristle associated with each tooth; fore tibia with fossula spongiosa occupying about 1/4 its length in male and slightly less than 1/ 2 in female; mid tibia with fossula spongiosa occupying only apex of ventral surface. Male genitalia with basal plate bridge of phallus about 1.5 times as long as basal plate; pedicel extremely long and curved, about 2.5 times as long as basal plate; dorsal phallothecal sclerite concave with an elliptical concave notch on right side.
