Microtendipes Kieffer, 1915 View in CoL

We collected Microtendipes pedellus group larvae from uplift ponds below the Sheridan Glacier near Cordova, 19 Southeast Alaska lakes, including Bob’s Lake near Klawock and Summit Lake on Prince of Wales Island, and Duck Creek in Juneau. Bowser et al. (2020) DNA barcoded several unknown species of Microtendipes from the Miller Creek watershed on the Kenai Peninsula. Kaufman et al. (2012) found larvae in their core samples in Lone Spruce Pond. Larvae of Microtendipes , particularly those of Microtendipes caducus Townes, 1945 and Microtendipes pedellus (De Geer, 1776) , are widespread in unpolluted streams of the southeastern United States, where they build long sand retreats on rocks ( Hudson et al. 1990). The larvae can also occur in littoral and sublittoral sediments of large bodies of standing water ( Epler et al. 2013).
