Acamptocladius Brundin, 1956

Acamptocladius dentolatens ( Saether, 1971) is the only confirmed described species from the Nearctic. This species was initially placed in a new genus Phycoidella by Saether (1971) but was redefined by Cranston & Saether (1982). Epler (2001) described a larva of a possible new species from Florida. We found early instar larvae of possibly A. dentolatens from an uplift pond associated with the Sheridan Glacier near Cordova, Alaska. Adults of this species have been collected near upland moorland and polyhumic lakes, and larvae are collected from colonies of the blue-green algae Aphanocapsa Nägeli, 1849 ( Cranston & Saether 1982). Larvae of this genus have been found in sphagnum moss and organic matter on the bottom of lentic habitats in the Netherlands ( Moller Pillot 2014). We collected an adult male of Acamptocladius submontanus (Edwards, 1932) near a forested bog ( Fig. 9J ), Eaglecrest ski area on Douglas Island near Juneau in mid-July ( Fig. 10D ). This is the first faunistic record of the genus and species for Alaska.
