Centris (Centris) flavifrons ( Fabricius, 1775) View in CoL
Apis flavifrons Fabricius, 1775 View in CoL . 383.
Type data: Holotype male ( NHMUK, examined).
Type locality: Brazil (according to Moure (1960), near Rio de Janeiro) .
Centris flavopicta Smith, 1854 View in CoL . 373, 374.
Type data: This species was described from an undetermined number of males collected in Ega, an old name for the city of Tefé, northern Brazil. One of the males is housed at NHMUK and was cited by Moure (1969) as the “type” of the species. According to ICZN Article number 74.6 this mention can be treated as a valid lectotype designation. The specimen has the following data label: Type H. T. [red-rimmed circular label, printed]\ [light blue circular label] Ega [handwritten]\ B.M. TYPE HYM. [printed] 17B.933. [handwritten]\ Centris flavop- icta Smith. Type. [handwritten]\ flavopicta Sm. Type [handwritten]. The lectotype is in good condition.
Type locality: Brazil: Amazonas state: Tefé (formerly known as Ega) .
Comments: Taxonomic decision for synonymy: Moure (1969). The lectotype of C. flavopicta corresponds to a metander male. This species was correctly interpreted by Snelling (1984) and Moure et al. (2007).
