Centris (Hemisiella) nitida Smith, 1874 View in CoL
Centris nitida Smith, 1874 View in CoL . 368, 369.
Type data: To describe this species, Smith (1874) used an unknown number of female specimens collected in an undetermined locality in Honduras, Central America. An exemplar belonging to the type series is housed at NHMUK and is here designated the lectotype. The specimen has the following data label: Type H. T. [red-rimmed circular label, printed]\ [circular label] Honduras [handwritten]\ B.M. TYPE HYM. [printed] 17B.906 [handwritten]\ Centris nitida Smith. (Type) [handwritten]\ nitida Honduras. Smith [handwritten] ( NHMUK).
Type locality: Honduras .
Centris confinis Pérez, 1905 View in CoL . 40.
Type data: In the original description Pérez (1905) indicated that the provenance of the type specimen(s) was uncertain, citing the type locality as “ Mexique?”. Snelling (1984) indicated he studied the “type” of C. confinis , assuming that it was the holotype of the species. Due to the lack of evidence on the number of specimens used by Pérez (1905) to describe that species, according to the ICZN Article number 74.6 the Snelling’s assump- tion can be treated as a valid lectotype designation. During this research, a female was found in the MNHP without a locality label, bearing only two labels indicating its type status. If Snelling’s (1984) lectotype designation is valid (i.e. it actually belongs to the type series of C. confinis ) then the synonymy between this species and C. nitida proposed by him ( Snelling, 1984) is correct.
Type locality: “ Mexique?”
Comment: The type locality of C. nitida cannot be further narrowed down than to Honduras.
