Centris (Paracentris) nigrocaerulea Smith, 1874 View in CoL
Centris nigro-caerulea Smith, 1874 View in CoL . 369.
Type data: This species was described based on an undetermined number of specimens of both sexes collected in Mexico. A female specimen of the type series housed at NHMUK was designated lectotype by Snelling (1984) and it has the following data label: Type H. T. [red-rimmed circular label, printed]\ B.M. TYPE HYM. [printed] 17B.903 [handwritten]\ [light blue circular label] 61 118 [handwritten]\ Centris nigro-caerulea Smith (Type) [handwritten]\ [red label] Lectotype Centris nigro -caerulea F. Smith, 1874 ♀ by R. R. Snel- ling, 1982 [handwritten]. The lectotype is in good condition and is coded BMNH (E) 968166 in the NHMUK data portal.
Type locality: Mexico .
Centris clypeata Friese, 1899 View in CoL . 41 (junior primary homonym of C. clypeata Lepeletier, 1841 View in CoL ).
Type data: This species was described based on specimens of both sexes collected in Mexico and Guatemala. According to the original description, the type series was composed by almost one hundred specimens housed at MNHP. In that collection were found two males and two females in relatively good condition, all with locality label and with an original Friese’s identification label. One of the males is here designated the lectotype and it has the following data label: [greenish label] Museum Paris Mexique Orizaba Biart 1862 [printed]\ [circular label] 14 62 [handwritten]\ Centris clypeata ♂ [handwritten] det. Friese 1898 [printed]\ Lectotype Centris clypeata Friese, 1899 . Paralectotype male with the following data label: Museum Paris Mexique Orizaba Biart 1862 [printed]\ [circular label] 14 62 [handwritten]\ Centris clypeata ♂ [handwritten] det. Friese 1898 [printed]\ Paralectotype Centris clypeata Friese, 1899 . Two paralectotypes female with the following data label: Museum Paris Mexique Orizaba Biart 1862 [printed]\ [circular label] 14 62 [handwritten]\ Centris clypeata ♀ [handwritten] det. Friese 1898 [printed]\ Paralectotype Centris clypeata Friese, 1899 .
In ZMB three males were found with the following data label: 11660 Mexiko (?) [handwritten]\ Centris clypeata ♂ n. sp. [handwritten] det. Friese 1898 [printed]. Even though these specimens have an original Friese’s label mentioning that they are a new species, it is not explicitly indicated that they were collected in Orizaba, unlike the specimens housed at MNHP. Considering this, along with the fact of Friese not having mentioned the existence of syntypes in ZMB, I am interpreting that these specimens do not belong to the type series of the species. The current condition and repository of the Guatemalan paralectotypes is unknown.
Type locality: Mexico: Veracruz state: Orizaba .
Centris (Paracentris) anthracina Snelling, 1966 View in CoL . 14, 16, 17.
Type data: Holotype male ( MCZ, examined).
Type locality: Honduras: Francisco Morazán department: “Uyaca” (sic= Uyuca) .
Comment: Taxonomic decision for synonymy: Snelling (1984). The type locality of C. nigrocaerulea cannot be further narrowed down than to Mexico.
