Type Locality: México, Colima, Manzanillo.
Vernacular Names: Allen's Woodrat.
Synonyms: Hodomys elattura Osgood 1904 ; Hodomys guerrerensis Goldman 1938 ; Hodomys vetulus Merriam 1894 .
Distribution: S Sinaloa to Oaxaca; interior México along basins of Río Balsas to C Puebla and Río Tehuacán to N Oaxaca.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (nt).
Discussion: Kelson (1952) placed vetulus as a subspecies of N. alleni . See Genoways and Birney, 1974 (Mammalian Species, 41, as Neotoma alleni ), who first reported the karyotype (2n=48).
