status

sp. nov.

Agonopterix parallela Zhu & Wang , sp. nov.

( Figs 11 View FIGURES 9‒16 , 34 View FIGURES 30‒35 )

Type material. CHINA, Yunnan: Holotype ♁, Mt. Gaoligong (24.83ºN, 98.77ºE), Baoshan , 2157 m, 24.VII.2015, leg. KJ Teng & X Bai, slide No. ZXJ20557 GoogleMaps . Paratype: 1♁, same data as holotype, slide No. ZXJ20563 GoogleMaps .

Diagnosis. The new species can be hardly distinguished from A. likiangella Lvovsky & Wang, 2011 in the forewing pattern, it but can be distinguished by the elliptical socii, the cuiller apically reaching anterior 1/4 from the costa and the saccus not extended in the male genitalia. In A. likiangella , the socii are semicircular, the cuiller reaches the costa and the saccus is distinctly extended ( Lvovsky & Wang 2011: 64, figs 1, 6). It is similar to A. sphaeroidea sp. nov. in the forewing pattern, and can be distinguished by the forewing without a black dot before the outer margin of the cell, which is present in A. sphaeroidea .

Description. Adult ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 9‒16 ). Wingspan 21.0–22.0 mm.

Head white, with black scale tuft posteriorly; frons black mixed with white. Labial palpus black; second segment white in distal half, with a black ring near apex, without protruding scales; third segment white in basal 1/3 dorsally, with a white spot near base ventrally. Antenna with scape black, white on anterior margin distally; pecten white basally, black distally; flagellum black alternated with blackish grey on dorsal surface except black in basal several flagellomeres, greyish yellow on ventral surface.

Mesonotum grey, with black spot anterolaterally; tegula black basally, grey with black scales distally. Foreleg with coxa, tibia, and tarsus black, except tarsus white at base of basal one tarsomere and at apices of basal one and apical one tarsomeres; midleg with tibia and tarsus black, tibia white at apex, tarsus white at base of basal one tarsomere and at apices of basal two and two apical tarsomeres; hindleg white, tibia black mixed with white long hairs on dorsal surface, tarsus black mixed with white on outside except white at apex of each tarsomere; all femora black, white distally.

Forewing ground colour grey, with reddish brown scales in basal 1/4; costal margin with differently sized black spots, a few closely arranged distal spots diffused and narrowed toward outer margin of cell, forming a large triangular black patch mixed with grey; black fascia at base, from costal margin to dorsum; salmon orange parallelogramshaped patch extending from beyond basal black fascia to inner margin of black costal patch, posteriorly extending to anterior margin of cell, with tiny greyish brown dots above anterior margin of cell; cell with a black spot at middle surrounded by reddish brown scales, with a greyish white spot on outer margin surrounded by black scales; inconspicuous salmon orange patch beyond outer margin of cell and below triangular costal patch, densely speckled with tiny black dots; dorsum yellow, with black scales, denser around tornus; greyish brown shadow from near base of dorsum to near end of fold, spreading obliquely upward to near posterior margin of cell; terminal spots black, evenly spaced, extending from apex along termen to before tornus; fringe grey, darker at base. Hindwing and fringe blackish grey.

Male genitalia ( Fig. 34 View FIGURES 30‒35 ). Uncus semicircular, obtuse at apex. Socii elliptical, setose. Gnathos rounded, with fine spines. Valva wide at base, gradually narrowed to rounded apex; costa straight. Transtilla a narrow band; transtilla lobes semielliptical, setose. Sacculus reaching 2/5 length of valva; cuiller a stout spine, reaching anterior 1/4 from costa. Juxta heart-shaped, with protruding and thickened membrane posterolaterally; lateral lobes narrow, reaching 3/4 length of juxta. Vinculum widened anteromedially, not produced. Phallus curved medially; cornuti being numerous tiny spinules.

Female unknown.

Distribution. China (Yunnan).

Etymology. The specific epithet is derived from the Latin parallelus, referring to the salmon orange patch in parallelogram shape.
