Distribution: Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico (Sinaloa and Tamaulipas), Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Surinam, Trinidad, Venezuela.

Conservation: CITES – Appendix III ( Honduras); IUCN – Vulnerable as E. b. senex, otherwise Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Reviewed by Thomas (1900 a), Lönnberg (1913), and Presley (2000). Synonyms allocated according to Cabrera (1957), Hall (1981), and Presley (2000).
