Geographical distribution: southern United States in the Nearctic region to Antigua in the Neotropical region.

Material from Cuba: Camagüey, Paragua, 02.V.1927, no specimen number or collector specified (KU) ( Hungerford and Evans 1934).

Habitat: stagnant water of creeks and streams, semipermanent and permanent vegetated pools, marshes, and swamps.
