4.1. Myrcia apiocarpa (O.Berg) N. Silveira (1985: 65) View in CoL . Aulomyrcia apiocarpa O. Berg (1857 –1859: 64). Type :— BRAZIL. Unknown date, Sellow s.n. (holotype B, destroyed; lectotype LE00007022!, designated here) .

The only available specimen of Myrcia apiocarpa does not have reproductive structures, except for an infructescence peduncle. Berg placed the species in Aulomyrcia with doubt (placing a question mark after genus). The fruit is described as having 4–5 seeds, which suggests 3-locular ovaries, a feature found mainly in Myrcia sect. Aguava and Myrcia sect. Reticulosae . However, the former has the midvein raised at least at the base adaxially (vs. totally sulcate in Myrcia apiocarpa ), and the latter has pubescent staminal rings, even in fruit (vs. glabrous in M. apiocarpa ). Due to these inconsistencies and the scanty material, the species is placed as incertae sedis inside Myrcia .
