Myrcia toledoana has flowers with the calyx completely fused in bud, opening irregularly at anthesis, and a pilose receptacle. These features are often found in species of Myrcia sect. Aulomyrcia such as Myrcia uaupensis (see above). For this reason, we place Myrcia toledoana in M. sect. Aulomyrcia .
