5.5.1. Myrcia anomala Cambessèdes (1832: 328) View in CoL .

= Myrcia atropilosa (O.Berg) N. Silveira (1985: 65) View in CoL . Aulomyrcia atropilosa O. Berg (1857 View in CoL –1859: 101), syn. nov. Type:— BRAZIL. Paraná, S. Ignacio, unknown date, Sellow s.n. (holotype B, destroyed). Neotype:— BRAZIL. Paraná, Ponta Grossa, Vila Velha, 15 December 1976, L.T.Dombrowski 6757 (MBM227996!, designated here).

In the protologue, Aulomyrcia atropilosa View in CoL is compared with Aulomyrcia montana View in CoL (Cambess. 1832–1833: 325) O. Berg (1855 –1856: 36) (= Myrcia montana Cambessèdes View in CoL ), a species of Myrcia sect. Gomidesia . However, the protologue does not describe any feature typical of this section; instead, the reflexed calyx lobes suggest affinities with Myrcia sect. Tomentosae . Lannoy et al. (2021) informally suggested that Aulomyrcia atropilosa View in CoL should be a synonym of Myrcia anomala View in CoL , which belongs to the latter section. In fact, the reduced and villose inflorescences of A. atropilosa View in CoL , with up to 8 flowers clustered at the apex of a very short peduncle, are quite characteristic of M. anomala View in CoL from southern Brazil. Other shared features include the villose branchlets, and cordate leaves with acuminate apices and prominent venation. The type material of Aulomyrcia atropilosa View in CoL was probably destroyed at B; no other specimens related to this name were found. The neotype selected here matches well the protologue.
