1.7. Pimenta paganii (Krug & Urb.) Flickinger View in CoL (in Flickinger et al. 2020). Myrcia paganii Krug & Urban (in Urban
1894–1895: 587).
= Myrcia margarettae (Alain) Alain View in CoL (in Liogier 1985: 328). Eugenia margarettae Alain View in CoL (in Liogier 1963: 190), syn. nov. Type:— PUERTO RICO. Doña Juana, Toro Negro Mountains, in dense wood, 10 July 1962, Liogier 9400 (holotype NY [image!]).
Analysis of the type material of Myrcia margarettae View in CoL indicates strong similarity with Pimenta paganii View in CoL , especially the tomentose and ferruginous indumentum covering twigs, inflorescences and flowers, leaf form and venation, and pentamerous flowers arranged in few-flowered dichasia. Based on these features, Myrcia margarettae View in CoL is here considered a synonym of Pimenta paganii View in CoL . Leaves of juvenile plants are larger with an acute apex vs. smaller and rounded in immature individual, which explains the difference in leaf shape between the sterile type of Myrcia paganii View in CoL and the fertile type collection of M. margarettae View in CoL (Flickinger, pers. obs.).
