Type Locality: México, Michoacán, Nahuatzen, 8500 ft (2591 m).
Vernacular Names: Volcano Deermouse.
Synonyms: Neotomodon orizabae Merriam 1898 ; Neotomodon perotensis Merriam 1898 .
Distribution: Endemic to the Cordillera Transvolcanica, México, from WC Michoacán eastwards to C Veracruz.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Williams and Ramírez-Pulido's (1984) evaluation of geographic variation disclosed no basis for subspecific divisions. See Williams et al. (1985, Mammalian Species, 242, as Peromyscus alstoni ).
